Is the Sarasota Sheriff's Office required to answer questions about its public records or create new records in response to a request for information?

Florida Statutes 119 .07 provides a right of access to inspect and copy an agency's existing public records. A custodian of a public record is not required to give out information from the records nor is it mandated that an agency create new records to accommodate a request for information. Documents will be provided in the format in which they are available.
E-mail addresses are public record under Florida Law and are not exempt from public-records requirements. If you do not want your e-mail address to be subject to being released pursuant to a public-records request do not send electronic mail to this entity. Instead, contact this office by telephone or in writing, via the United States Postal Service.
